This curriculum document has been written in full awareness of the relevant professional standards and guidelines.

There are 4 tiers of Incident Commander competences aligned to International frameworks including Institute of Fire Engineers, (IFE), CAP699, NFPA and the UK SFJ Awards. They are inclusive of multi-agency working best practises and competences, which are integrated within all 4 competence tiers.

The curriculum has been designed as a framework to support overall officer development, and to build confident and competent officers. It should be utilised during officer training sessions to support the development of the skills and attributes required of an Effective Commander. It should be used in conjunction with certified NFPA qualifications and the Effective Command training & development tool kit.
