Effective Command Officer Development Courses

The team at Effective Command can also deliver officer development programs to support progression through the ranks and increased responsibilities in the department. These courses will focus on the application of Incident Command principles at incidents appropriate to the individuals responsibility. Training and assessment of command capability will provide assurance of command competence. These courses can be coupled with internal Fire Department NFPA certification with the enhanced practical component, all course content is cross mapped to all relevant standards.

Initial Incident Command (Lieutenants & Acting Captains)

Following the completion of this course the learners will:

  • Understand the key principles of the Incident Command System

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of personnel within the Incident Command Structure

  • Understand the management of risk at operational incidents

  • Understand effective communication at operational incidents

  • Be able to plan an initial response to an operational incident

  • Be able to implement actions at an operational incident to meet planned objectives

  • Be able to close down the operational phase of an incident.

  • Be able to review a response to an operational incident.

  • Group based scenario training

  • Formative assessments – delivered using simulation (Days 1-3)
