Effective Command Canada in September

September has been a very busy month back in Canada, and we have certainly hit the ground running!

Effective Command Instructor Courses were run in both City of Winnipeg & Town of Innisfil Fire Departments in recent weeks, with the support for the Effective Command program continuing to grow across Canada.

I couldn’t be more impressed with the program, the data, and the opportunity for ongoing professional development of our Officers and Chiefs. The instructors were exceptional, bringing a wealth of knowledge and real-world experience to the table. They were always approachable, ready to answer questions, and provided invaluable insights that enriched the learning experience. Overall, the Effective Command Train the Trainer course exceeded my expectations

We also delivered our first Effective Command instructor refresher course for students who attended the inaugural course 12 months ago, thank you to Innisfil, Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury and City of Ottawa / Ville d’Ottawa Fire Departments for the continued support of the program and toolkit.

We also launched our first dedicated Effective Command training centre with Municipality of Mississippi Mills Fire Department at their Head quarters in Almonte. This partnership will provide a dedicated base for future instructor and officer courses within the province. Keep an eye out for more dedicated training centres being announced over the coming weeks.

Last week Katherine Lamb was invited to present at the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs conference in Montreal. Here she presented on her personal journey during a leadership session to the Women in the Fire Service group, and regarding Effective Command Canada training during the open sessions. Both sessions were incredibly well received and lead to further discussion regarding incident command training and officer development.

Finally, we are incredibly proud to announce that we have released the Effective Command Level 1 Officer curriculum. This has been written to provide a full and overarching overview of the Level 1 officer role, and can be used to deliver Officer development programs that are aligned to NFPA Fire Officer 1. This curriculum is openly available from the www.effectivecommand.ca website. This curriculum can be used by Fire Departments to deliver their own Officer development programs, or they can reach out from Effective Command Canada to attend a course at one of our dedicated training centres.
